Yes, it did happen and the Snake revealed his true colors.
The church =/= a building or collection of buildings nor the bureaucracy those buildings house.
The church == the individuals who choose to be part of the Body of Christ whose Head is Christ.
However, as with all things, malevolents distort and pervert the meaning of words in order to poison the hearts and minds of good hearteds.
