I know you are trying to be helpful, but the reality is certainly not as easy as what the public has been told. Maybe you have been blessed to receive good care but not everyone is. You are advocating PRECISELY what this guy has tried to do but has been unable to get care. The crimes of the VA HC system are well documented... including this post - look at that horrendous wound, and the putting him off till the next day. How hard would it be to take that guy back to a room and wash his wound and put some antiseptic and antibiotics on it ????????
The VA has refused emergency room bills, and if you dont sign forms, they will not treat you. Emergency rooms are sometimes few and far between, and do what they want. Also this place he went HAS an emergency room.
I speak of what I know. The tweet said he "went to Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center". It did not say he went to a local, non VA, emergency room.
Every Vet in the VA health care system is given a toll free number which will reach a nurse 24 hours a day. I carry that number in my wallet. You call the number and work through the treatment options until your issue is resolved. If your local VA health care provider is not addressing the issue they will send you to a non VA health care provider.
From first hand experience, if you don't sign financial responsibility forms, they will treat you. Vets, if you find yourself in a similar situation, call your toll free number and work through the process. If you still don't get help try going to your local hospital's emergency room or a local immediate care center.
