I put out a couple of feelers about "metal fabrication" and will get back to you if I hear anything. But employment is up right now all around here, with new homes and office buildings going up everywhere. Surely there is a need for metal fabricators... do you mean machine work, lathes, mills, and such, or is it more sheet metal fabrication as for conduits and HVAC work?
I'd suggest viewing the job offerings around here and look for his specialty, because "metal fabrication" covers a huge variety of different operations.
I just heard from my friend here, he is a construction project manager i Sevierville, about 30 minutes from Knoxville. I am pasting his reply here verbatim:
I know a lot of metal fabricators here. I contract out with them all the time on projects. The big one in Knoxville is Goddard Metal.
Sounds like he can work anywhere. But there will be an initial downturn in income. Perhaps you will save enough in taxes and housing costs to cushion the transition.
Well, Tennessee is still a free state.
I know.
It is difficult getting things in order to move.
The thing that he fears the most is not knowing anyone in that area.
He is afraid of losing his networking also. He does metal fabrication on the side.
He has between now and next July to figure it out.
In the meantime I had a realtor here this week to get me an appraisal and work with me.
I am putting the pieces together.
Maybe you have words of wisdom I can relay.

He does all that. People will tell them something they need and takes it from conception to completion.

I will tell him.
This is the incentive he needs.
He can fabricate anything. He is building a boat trailer this weekend for someone.
The owner of his company told him the other day after he did something at work they would ship work to him if he moves. Then he can fix and ship back.
This is how valuable he his.
Not saying it because I am married to him it is the truth.
I believe you. 🙂
