People are afraid to tell someone the truth because the truth might offend someone. So instead of telling the truth that might lead someone to salvation, people would rather be liked, even if that means someone will go to hell for eternity.
We are to be fishers of men… If you love God above all, and love your fellow man as yourself, and know the only way to eternal life is repentance for your sins and acceptance of the one who bought your eternal life through his sacrifice, not knowing how to is not a very good excuse… If you are starving to death, and the only thing that could save your life is eating fish, I’d bet most people wouldn’t default by saying I don’t know how to catch them… They’d be honing their fishing skills, figuring out what the fish are biting on and when… Fishing would be their Top Priority.. They’d join fishing clubs and finding out what the most successful fishermen were doing.. It’s not that they don’t know how, it’s that it’s not a priority and, unfortunately most believers are complacent in the responsibility, distracted by what they can get and do for themselves..
I realize I’m going to get pushback for coming off to strong… But… a huge part of the problems we have in our society is that rather than Helping others overcome their problems by calling them out to their responsibilities, we not only buy their excuses, but will go so far as providing one for them..
the ones who don't read the bible are lost. many who do read the bible don't believe much of it. others have varying degrees of faith. the vast majority are vigorously sifted by the adversary - the devil. so they get distracted till the next stress befalls them. you don't see them traveling 7 hours in freezing cold to attend a 5 hour bible study. comfy christianity is a popular thing. but not found in scripture. heal the sick, cast out demons, raise the dead, preach the gospel - this is what disciples do. we are called to be disciples and to disciple one another. Im starting to see more disciples tho, it seems the worse things get, the more people get serious and find the narrow way and become disciples. maranatha.
I've read some interesting perspectives on this question. It's pretty obvious Jesus wasn't a "go along to get along" kind of guy. There is a need for moral fortitude - refusal to bend on the definition of right and wrong. Defend the truth and pass it intact to the next generation. That is very much a male trait, and why the Catholic Church was configured as a male-dominated organization.
Post Vatican II in the 60s the Catholic Church has been more concerned with getting along with other faiths than with speaking the truth. A big part of Vatican II was expanding the role of women in the church, and at the same time becoming more ecumenical, or "cooperative with other faiths." Gone was the confidence that Catholicism was the One True Path to salvation, to the position that Catholicism was just one of many acceptable paths to salvation. If there was no real difference between being Catholic or Lutheran, why not be Lutheran; it's less demanding.
And the Catholic Church has lost confidence in its teachings, and lost the scriptural basis of the catechism of the faith, it has become a ship adrift, more concerned with getting along with others than in defending the doctrines of the faith.
And I believe that was the seeds of the change from "defending and preserving the truth" to "getting along with others."
One of my family members who was discipling me, said it very eloquently!
Because we want mercy for ourselves, and judgment for others.
Fear of man.

mostly people don't know how. it's not taught well in churches.

Tolerance means your doomed.
Repentance means you can be saved. Something demons never want you to remember.
