Gender dysmorphia is real in very teeny tiny numbers in nature, the same as any other mental impairment.
But..we all know that isn't what he means. When he says "it's real", he is hoisting a shield against those who will shoot him full of arrows. He is in a sense forgiving those who teach children the behavior and nurture it in one fashion or another.
We cannot stop at just the physical side of things; it needs to be asserted -- and people educated -- that the biggest problems aren't even this "affirming care", because the numbers of those receiving that care are absolutely dwarfed by those who don't.
Parents, teachers, governments, corporations. The assault on the psyche of children is like an onslaught of reprehensible evil.
If a kid plays with a Barbie, suddenly that means he wants to be a girl.
A boy tries on a dress or pantyhose because he's in his formative years and has not come to the conclusion that they are feminine things and he is a boy, so you make a joke or talk about it in passing with your friends or family and there is no shortage of people jumping down your throat or threatening you with taking your child away.
Prior to this, there was only one thing that we tried to affirm in mentally impaired patients:
We tried to affirm the realities that the demented and sufferers of Alzheimer's have, to keep them satisfied, happy and feeling safe for the remainder of their lives.
We don't affirm essentially anything else, we treat it. Just like we should be treating those who truly believe they are meant to be the opposite sex with psychological therapy, and affirming their actual sex by helping them come to terms with who they are instead of wishing they were someone else.
This post turned into a tangent so I'll stop here but
TL;DR: We can't afford to fight this only on the physical front. We have to stop them from indoctrinating kids at all levels before it even starts. We have to make everyone recognize that we are who we are, and what we can change is limited in many ways.
Disagree. Sort of.
