Pfact checkers are going nuts over this ‘viral’ post. While this post has some patents for cure mechanisms rather than the viruses themselves (and that’s what the pfact checkers are focusing on), it is a FACT that you absolutely can patent a bacterium or virus genome sequence, as mentioned in a 2013 news article:
