Not talked about much...but all that BS about "the future is electric" has a lot to do with GM, Ford, etc being on board with the idea of EV's so they can close their engine plants. Instead of an engine, cars would come with cheap battery packs from China. While they charge the same, if not more, for a car with less range and utility. The govt "tax breaks" provide incentives for EV land yachts that cost $80k on up.
Car companies LOVE that business model. Force you to buy their product, charge you more, you get less. And EV's are worthless in 8 years when the battery pack shits the bed, thereby killing the used market.

Restricting people's mobility is part of the goal.
You don’t think “they” will be able to do that with petroleum?
Gas crisis, higher gas prices, but going electric is just more efficient.
For the mantra : “if you buy an EV, they will be able to control us more efficiently” to become true, it means that you expect “them” to win.
If “they” win, it doesn’t matter if you own an EV or ICE, there will be pretty effective ways for “them” to do what they want anyway.
“Oh you’ve filled 10 gallons of gas this month, no beef for you”.
