“It’s not my responsibility to carry the weight of your identity because you’re too weak to do it yourself” is such a perfect statement.
I have my own self esteem issues and need for validation. I get almost none from my friends, family, and co-workers.
Any psychologist would tell me that that’s not their problem, it’s mine. My happiness and validation is not supposed to be dependent upon others. That’s MY problem to bear, and I struggle with it.
But the same mental health community (and health community at large) have now decided this is the one thing that apparently you are allowed to forcibly seek validation from others on.
At least, that’s for the ones that are being honest and are genuinely dealing with self image problems.
The rest are either using this knowingly to bully people, or worse, are using it to hijack language and culture for the purposes of control.
