I called my local cable provider (Optimum; worst cable provider possible?) and the automated message said there would be a FEMA emergency test today at 2pm (EDT). Anyone else hear about this? I wouldn't have known if I hadn't called the cable company.

It is Emergency Preparedness Month, maybe why doing a test.
There was a nationwide one scheduled for October.
Perhaps it’s a regional test? Sometimes various states and counties will test their portion of the system independently of each other
That's probably it, but it seems pretty weird that the only way to find out is by calling the company (of course, as bad as their service is, perhaps most customers will call before the test :) )
I thought it was supposed to be October 4th?
It's possible they just have that message on at all times, until the 4th?
