Benadryl the traditional drug is diphenhydramine. This is the same ingredient in a bunch of sleep aids.
Phenylephrine, IIRC, is the replacement for pseudphedrine. A perfectly safe and effective drug (pseudophedrine) that they heavily restrict because the tweakers can use it to make meth.
I would have to agree with the article that phenylphrine is useless. It only exists because purchasing pseudophedrine is such a royal PITA otherwise nobody would use phenylphrine.
I have sinus allergies and have used diphenhydramine and pseudophedrine for decades - I actually started using Benadryl when it was prescription-only. I just live with a stuffy nose now because of the ridiculous hoops I have to jump through to get pseudophedrine, and nothing else really works as well for me.
I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that it's easier to buy meth than it is to buy pseudophedrine, which is both ironic and stupid.
Benadryl can also help with an allergic reaction. I’ve seen a baby eat a cookie for the first time and his lips swelled up. His mom quickly gave him liquid Benadryl and it blocked the histamine.
Phenylephrine is worthless and doesn't do anything to help with decongestant. When they required a prescription for pseudphedrine, I tried the "replacement" product. It was a complete waste of money.
Glad the FDA is looking at ditching it's approval as an OTC decongestant.
Amazon yanked it immediately when the FDA pulled this stunt during the plandemic. It's back all over the place now - but we all saw it vanish.
You could still find it in places that sold bulk powder, but it became temporarily difficult for regular people (who don't know much about researching to find alternatives) to find for a while there.
This isn't exactly what it sounds.

In the US, they just keep it behind the counter and you can only buy so much, but its 15 doses per day.
You don't think that's ridiculous?
Especially when it comes in a 10-pack?
Yes, but that doesn't prevent me from taking it because it is the best product. Its not the medicine's fault there are horseshit rules.
My Grandpa swore by Pipe Tobacco as a natural decongestant.
Never had the opportunity to learn what Tobacco he used though.

This ^^^. I had an allergic reaction to morphine in the emergency room and they pumped me full of that stuff.

Only issue with Benadryl is it also suppresses your immune system...
So it's a bit of a broad stroke treatment vs. say Ivermectin which does not suppress your immune system.

Taking too much extra strength Benadryl will mess you up. Don't mess with this medication ever. Better alternatives available
