Nichols had cement walking trails put around Nichols Green Park and embedded a mile and a half of it with actual nickels. Within a couple days all the crackheads in Jacksonville, Tx had chiseled them all out, leaving pitted cement as a token of their appreciation.
The park is a homeless camp in part now. He just so happened to donate the land just before running for office. Made a fortune selling cap guns, which is a good metaphor.
Just so happens all the city land in J-ville is being sold off to pay for a 700,000$ civic center upgrade, which ain't to many folks excited about.
