The U.S Military is notoriously tight lipped when it comes to embarrassing screwups. Probably on par with the Soviets in how much they’ll deny and lie about the embarrassing event in question.
They refused to admit for years for instance. That they’ve almost accidentally nuked the mainland U.S several times. And several different parts of Europe and Greenland after accidents involving Bombers with Nuclear payloads. Now they’ll admit it. But only grudgingly.
You just reminded me I drove past one of those blunders. Somewhere in rural SC along the coast there's a field where they accidentally dropped a live nuke and it miraculously didn't detonate. Small little historical marker and statue off the highway there.
