If you invoke an exception, be it religious or otherwise, you signal that you accept the premise that they have a right to impose such restrictions. That is like pissing in your pants to get some temporary warmth. The restrictions will only come more frequent and be harder.
The only way to get them to stop this, is to simply say NO. Granted, a lot easier to say than to do, but if we all do it, they can be broken. After all, there are a lot more of us than them...
