It didn't happen like that, of course. Zelensky played a president on the TV and "they" wanted an actor for the top job. A match made in heaven.

There were all kinds of new-Nazis in Ukraine and the idea was to incorporate the militant factions into the regular Ukrainian army so they would be under some control. The fact that Zelensky happens to be Jewish is just a propaganda bonus.
