Europe in a nutshell. Post WW2. Their National Defense strategies essentially boiled down to “Hold out until the Americans and their bloated Defense Budget arrive.”
Only the two most Prideful Countries, the U.K and France, made any real effort to keep Force Projection capabilities and or just stand on their own. In modern day those capabilities are a shadow of what they once were.
The U.K Floating and launching two Carriers. Marks the first major defense expenditure by either one in decades. Even then allegedly they’ve got some logistical issues in actually supporting pro-longed operations.
At one point they were even allegedly considering offering to integrate the vessels and what ships they could spare for escorts into U.S Naval Formations and the order of battle. To reduce Logistic strain. Though nothing ultimately ever came of the proposed plan.

Up until they dropped the cats and traps configuration, a very idiotic decision.
