I've been rocking out to Linkin Park myself lately.
The band is named after a military complex where a tome of MK ALTRA programing went down. A tone of really bad stuff. Why pick that name?

Most fans think the band got their name from the community located in Chicago, Illinois this is not true. They got their name from a park named Lincoln Park in Santa Monica, CA that the band (at the time was named Xero) used to drive by on the way to rehearsing. If you're referring to the fact that the park was known for it's homeless encampments and drug use then I guess that could be a form of MK Ultra - but it wasn't anything formally to do with the military.
In 1998 the city renamed the park Christine Emerson Reed Park. Around this time the band changed their name from Xero to Hybrid Theory but still struggled to land a record deal. A few years later they would sign to Warner Bros. Records, the label suggested they change their name from "Hybrid Theory" because there was already a band called "Hybrid." The band settled on Linkin Park because they couldn't afford to purchase the domain name "Lincolnpark . com" even tho they really wanted to use the President's proper spelling "Lincoln."

I’m not even a mega fan... I like their music but... I was drawn to the fact early on when I’d read about them... and the fact that I grew up in Los Angeles... and they named themselves after a park I knew about always just fascinated me.
Edit*** look up Bono, the singer from the band U2... definitely had a hand in Chester’s death. He didn’t kill him self.
