For winter squash , my favorite way, beside whole in cool storage, is to bake them cut in half and cleaned on an oiled cookie sheet. Then when they're baked and cooled I portion them out and freeze. I use them in soups, chili and casseroles, etc.
For summer squash, I peel and freeze sliced, ready for soups, etc or for zucchini, shredded in portions to make bread.
