Interesting. So how did they go from Crusade veterans to wealthy bankers who didn't care about the Church? I have a lot of holes in my knowledge of things that far back.
They became bankers bc back in the day worshippers would go to visit the holy land they didn’t want to bring gold or valuables bc of the robbers. So people would deposit their gold with the templars in one city and they could redeem it at other Templar outposts on the route to Jerusalem. Templars also would provide security (for a fee) to the travelers and escort them on their journey. That’s what I read.
