Nope. You can carry at the Texas State Fair if you have the LTC. I know because i did today. I skipped the metal detector and a cop checked my ID and said i could go anywhere except a school function like FFA or if a football game was being played. He also of course said I couldn't get drunk, and had to keep it concealed.
I looked it up on their FAQ. Rules are online.
My wife and I left at like 2pm though. Too packed in there. Also glad I didn't have to make a tough decision if I was there during the shooting, because I would always default to stopping the threat and helping people.
Edited for some context: By the way - In Texas we do have Constitutional Carry, but not at the State Fair. It is privately owned and you have to go by their rules. I like having the LTC for multiple reasons - even though I legally shouldn't need it. This was one of those reasons. Another is if I ever get pulled over for a traffic violation (4 times in over 10 years) I give the cop my ID and my LTC and we end up talking about guns. Giving that cop my LTC puts him/her at ease because he knows I've been background checked, and have less likelihood of committing any crime than the actual cops do (real stat). I also don't know if you can carry at any of the county fairs (never checked) but the actual State Fair is allowed.
I mentioned the rules - here is the weapons section:
You must be family.. lol.. nice to see another local actually that close on this board. God Bless
I stand corrected. I was at okc one the other weekend and it had a sign for sure, they literally added a law to cover not allowing carry there. I owe the texas fair a visit if they are nice enough to allow carry.
Just remember to bring your LTC.
I didn't know they allowed it either until I decided to go and tried to find the rules online. I was very pleasantly surprised.
