I believe you are correct.

If you are interested in digging further, you may want to take a look at Wanda Alger's website (WandaAlger.me, I believe, where she has a dedicated section to Freemason history. Her research confirms your theory, but it also goes into detail about the first N Am lodges compromised. You'd have to look around her page to find it, because she mostly does other stuff, but she does have a wealth of resources on this topic.
