I was in Saigon January of 64, and going up the Saigon River, the crew was told to stay below decks because of snipers, going on liberty we came upon a Green Beret who gave us a tour of Saigon in the evening-we were informed that Charlie owned the bridge 3 klicks down the road. The indicators at that time the Americans were advisors.
As to the Tonkin FF, I have written about that several times. The ship I was on was 7th Fleet Flagship till August 64. Saw a lot of history and after putting a few dots together, was able to question the narrative..
