Breaking Down by gender. 78% of Men are more inclined to support free speech even if “Deeply Offensive” compared to 66% of Women.
74% of Republicans and 61% of Independents. Are in favor of Free Speech under any circumstances. Democrats are almost 50/50. With a bare majority of 53% in favor of free speech under any circumstances. 47% are in favor of of “Limited Circumstances”.
34% of Democrats believe Americans have too much Freedom. Versus 14.6% of Republicans. 46% of Republicans believe Americans don’t have enough Freedoms versus 22% of Democrats. Independents were a 50/50 split.
Clear majorities believe the Media should be allowed to report stories deemed “Of National Interest”. Consensus is broken when it comes to Social Media. A full 52% of the Democratic Party is in favor of Social Media censorship in the name of National Security. Versus only 1/3rd of Republicans and Independents.
Poll respondents were read the phrase “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” Only 31% of Democrats agreed with it. Versus 51% of Republicans.
3/4ths of Democrats believe the Government should strive to restrict “Hateful” social media posts. Only 50% of Republicans feel the same way.
Democrats are generally in favor of stifling the views and Speech of Political Extremists. Versus Republicans who for the most part weren’t. Unless the groups being censored were the KKK, Nazi Party, or Communist Party.
People should keep in mind though. That the response to Polls can swing based off how the questions are worded. If the same Poll was given again but the questions reworded to be either more vague or specific. Fairly likely we’d see changes in the percentage breakdown of responses.
