I was shocked to learn this. Had the shooting public known of this sale we would have ponied up the cash to buy it ourselves. CZ is top of the line but America.

The acquisition is about 2 years old. Not much excuse for anyone with interest and $220 million to pass it up. Lots of automobile brands and companies, and aircraft/aerospace companies have either folded, been acquired, or merged over the past 50 years. Not always for good results, either.
I think the lesson is that one must be vigilant about the health of those institutions we find valuable (i.e., worth saving). The fatal discovery is always upsetting, but it is hard to avoid the thought that this falls into the category of "What? My dog died?" What did we do to care beforehand? (Speaking as a survivor/victim of a corporate merger.)

Colt did it to themselves charging over a grand for a standard 6920 and basically telling the civilian market to fuck off while they pursued lucrative government contracts. The void in the AR market left by Colt is what allowed manufacturers like Bushmaster and, later, PSA to show up and give the people what they wanted for a reasonable price.
If they had told us, we would have purchased a Colt and a stock certificate for an additional $250. I plan to purchase 5 American made arms in the next 30 days to shore up the US Corps.

I remember researching a Colt Navy Revolver for a woman who had a family member who fought at the Battle of Antietam. I did the research, had a plaque made with every detail before she framed it so the children would not destroy the shadow box to find its historical significance.
Colt's name has been mud for decades. Shoddy qc and outrageous prices.
They're just now recovering from their brand name being trashed with their new wheel guns.
