I wonder if this was a planned mob hit job they tried to also use for gun confiscation. Who were the victims? Or, who could be potential victims in a similar scenario? My take away on this is that mind control through cell phones is a thing and some people somewhere should do what they're told or they'll activate crazy patsy guy to do a random terror on your extended family...

Reminds me of the movie Manchurian Candidate. They used phones to activate their subjects with trigger words. The subject would then go kill the target.
