I live in ME. I do believe our state was picked because as Senator Angus King pointed out, we have a huge percentage of gun owners in the state and one of the lowest rates of gun violence.

These are my thoughts exactly. Conservatives have very few strong lobbies here. Gun rights advocates are an exception. Anytime gun grabbing legislation pops up, throngs of people from both parties show up en masse to object. The ultra liberal wing keeps trying and failing to implement the onerous restrictions they want. It seems to me, they lose ground after every one of these incidents.
