As of: May 5, 2023 The Göttingen district court has convicted the lawyer Reiner Fuellmich of insults and incitement to hatred. The former head of the “Die Basis” party was ordered to pay 2,100 euros.

"This is a civil right case, nothing has been proven yet, but he has to stay in prison in order to prevent him to escape." He is jailed not becuase he was convicted but because they think he'll flee. DO they not have bail in Germany?

Not sure about bail but clearly they are trying to send a message. They arrested him in Mexico. Someone stole his passport so he went to the German embassy and they had goons waiting to take him into custody. They put him straight on a flight back to Germany and left his wife and possessions behind.
