Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
cosmos=Babylon

1 John talks about cosmos in 17 verses.

I am not sure where the word "cosmos" is coming from. John refers to "World".
And for the most part, he uses the word as referring to the "material world" and the pitfalls of being too attached to the material world. Not sure I would say he is referring to Babylon per se.
Ephesians 2:2 is interesting on the topic
The course of this cosmos is the same as according to the prince of the power of the air.
That of course is the dragon of Revelation 13.
Let me know if this is too heavy for you.
:)
Took me a while to understand what the strong concordance is, and how English words are referenced to their original Hebrew/Greek words in the Bible.
So when they use the word "World", the original word in Greek was "Kosmos".
Here is the list of different contexts the word Kosmos has been used in Bible.
None of it refer to anything close to "Babylon". Is that your own interpretation? Also, does it make sense to use a single definition in all contexts for a particular Greek word, when Bible uses it in different meanings in different contexts?
And finally, the big question - my KJV Bible has no "1 John", just "John" which contains very different text than the one you listed. Where do you find "1 John" ?
Thanks!

At thr bottom of the page there is a menu for the listings in order.
I don't know how to post that page, it's easy to use once you get used to it.
I did another thread on this dame topic in TD a few days later.............I tend to post things while they're hot on my mind, it's my way of researching.

Hope that helps,
Thanks for inquiring.

I think Bablyon is a metaphor for tyranny. See Isaiah 14.
