Student applicants go through a screening process for the medical and law colleges. Most humans think the screening has to do with aptitude and diligence. From my own personal experiences, I firmly believe the schools screen for guile, deception, and greed. What I learned about the American medical and legal system in the 90s caused me to lose faith in both which have now been shown to be for profit/grift industries.
Katherine touches on this in the conversation, that these training disciplines “separate students from their consciences.” My hunch is selecting for traits - defects? - that coldly dispense with morality and empathy is at the heart of how generational continuity is maintained across establishment institutions, from elite universities to military intelligence to government / civil service etc. And likely in high finance and business too.
