It's lazy and won't really convince anyone who doesn't already have doubts. It can sometimes spark conversation however, and that is worth while. It helps refine arguments, so it's not totally worthless, but it isn't up to the standards of "showing" by any measure.

Breaking the brainwashing, the belief in the "absolute truth" of a book written by the very people we understand today as the enemy of truth is the essential first step in helping people come to the realization that there is more to our connection to Source than we have been taught through that book.
I fully agree with your second paragraph. As for your first, you're excellent at citing what you're saying throughout your post. Methinks you actually went to college. My pet peeve for years on this site has been the lack of citations for people's claims. You don't have that problem. And honestly, I'm noticing a general improvement on that site-wide so I think the message is starting to get through. It's very encouraging.
