While I agree with you in principle I also subscribe to Murphy's Law.

If the possibility exists, even in the face of increasingly small chances, it can happen.

Otherwise one runs the risk of discounting a possible cause therefore only entertaining those which one subscribes to.

One can likely see the dangers within that line of thinking.
