Random story but when Qin Shi Huang died (first to unite China, where we get the name China from, Qin pronounced chin) his death was unexpectedly and he was away from the capital. This created a crisis to get back to the capital before someone found out about his death and tried to make a run for the throne.
His advisors pretended that he was still alive and and had his carriage in the middle of a line with "fish merchants" on the way back to the capital so the smell wouldn't make anyone suspicious 😆
History rhymes especially when you got the Chinese involved.
Ty. More evidence that deception about the life/death of important (publicly known) leaders has been used for centuries and possibly millenia.
