"Helter Skelter" is the book written by the DA that prosecuted Manson and his 'family'. Quite frightening stuff as I recall. Read that book about 1975. Connects Manson to the music industry via Beach Boys and the Beatles.
I read 10 chapters of this yesterday. I knew a bit about Laurel Canyon. But...this blew my mind. I couldn't put it down. Finally I had to give my mind and soul a break. He connects the dots really well.
I read an article ages ago that claimed that Roman Polanski had quite the collection of "films" that he had taken at his home, with various upscale California people - not just musicians/movie stars but also some political types as well. They'd set up a party with lots of booze and drugs and then, when people got loose enough, he'd film them.
The article speculated that that was one of the big reasons that the Family was sent to that house - they killed people who were close to Polanski because he was becoming a problem. The fact that the murders drove spikes into the Hippie movement (and created a huge climate of fear) was probably a secondary benefit.

There is an interesting book out there called "Inside the LC: The Strange but Mostly True Story of Laurel Canyon and the Birth of the Hippie Generation" which talks about this. Here is a link: https://centerforaninformedamerica.com/inside-the-lc-the-strange-but-mostly-true-story-of-laurel-canyon-and-the-birth-of-the-hippie-generation-part-i/ Seems most of the 60's musicians (the most famous) had parents who were high ranking military and they all ended up in Laurel Canyon. It's a fun read.
And the author Dave McGowan was probably targeted, he suddenly got cancer and passed quickly.

These goblins are beyond sick.
Yes, I have read some of that stuff. I believe it said that Manson lived at the home of one of the Beach Boys for awhile.
Yes, I think it was Brian Wilson.
