Are you sure Jesus wasn't forgiving the Roman soldiers that where tricked into punishing Jesus? Tricked by the Tribes of Israel, The tribes said he was the bastard son of a whore and a sorcerer to the Romans. So forgiving the Roman's for not knowing what they where doing makes more sense to me.
