It's funny that it tipped over, but regarding "dead tree" vs "live tree" does not make sense to me because I swear I remember seeing past white house Christmas trees rolling up to the white house on a trailer and they were all cut trees.

That's true, this one looks like it was dead before they cut it down. When I think about it, those trees I recall seeing on a carriage were probably for the inside of the white house.
