Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
There is very old writing in the constitution if I remember correctly that says they can be deported without due process, but identifying and rounding up 10s of millions of people is a huge undertaking. There could be as many as 50 million illegals here. Could take decades to expel them all. Is this realistic?
You do it with incentives that play both sides. You say to literally everyone with a newly issued social security number, "oh sorry, you are paying a flat X% all-income tax, and are barred from benefits from now on, but flights of emigration qualify for a one year tax rebate, as a one-time parting gift"
This way people can prove themselves legit, leave, or stay and pay a bit more tax and but be understood by everyone to be someone who is paying their way, or, at least, not taking. Meanwhile everyone else pays an even lower, or zero income tax. Now you have a system that automatically reduces immigration of unskilled people, increases respect for those who stay, massively reduces the tax burden on actual citizens. Just introduce that on day one, then sell icecream to the lines waiting to re-enter Mexico.
Ha beautiful
Moreso, but illegal citizens entering the country, more often than not, are entering the country legally and then overstaying their temporary visas. It becomes much more difficult to maintain over time. In those decades to kick out 50 million people, plenty more may enter without notice.
"Legally" under the biden admin. But coming through the port of entry, being processed then released with a promisary to show up to a hearing, then disappearing into the interior is hardly legal. This was happening regularly under Obama and before.
This isn't what I'm referring to. I'm referring to people who enter on work visas, or under guise of tourism, and stay in the country.
Oops, but yes either way its bad. Im fearful that there won't be a quick solution for any of this.
