COMING SOON: Possible 'balancing' solution to the Daily Chat vs "Shower Thought" posts. Let's experiment with making Daily Chat a 'Weekly Chat'? Hopefully frogs can expect better, more high-quality engagement that will increase visibility of legitimate questions/research requests, etc. Cool?

Tough call.
Although I skim and read most every topic and a good deal of their comments, General Chat is my highest engagement area here. I don't typically comment in stand alone threads as more often than not someone else has said what I would have said, and often better. I appreciate that about these boards.
I've also been engaged with internet forums dating back to Usenet and BBSes, and I've had a lot of experience with Daily and Weekly general threads....
I understand Daily is a bit of a "ghost town" with the usual suspects making up the majority of the conversation. In my experience, that's universally the nature of these threads. In my experience, broadening the scope to a weekly often doesn't improve upon that - the person who is unwilling or unable to engage in a Daily thread, is often less likely to approach a Weekly, as they assume it will be cluttered and unorganized. At least if that person is me. 😉
At least with the Daily, it's always fresh in 24 hours. You're not bouncing up and down checking comments from 6 days ago for new information. When comments gain momentum, they do so in a 24 hour period and can get surprisingly flushed out.
Granted, GAW is relatively low traffic, so I don't suspect a Weekly will get as unwieldy as a popular reddit sub's, so it'll probably work OK. And due to it's 24 hour nature, depending when one posts, a legitimately interesting comment in Daily could see no interaction at all. Personally, with my schedule and time zone, I'm almost never around to get an "early" post into DC if I needed something with eyes on it.
So, TLDR, I guess with the mods stance and how they want to deal with "Shower Thoughts" in Main, a Weekly isn't such a bad idea. I predict it will effect the "spirit" of the Daily, but hopefully we'll adapt and be better for it. Frogs adapt, and our mods are pretty good.
