Two steps to know if you're dealing with a shill or a mod of GA.W when you get a 'ban':

Having users reply to the message for appeal is what allows the exploit to succeed. Changing the appeal process to an email or some other method would reduce this attack.
Edit: perhaps a button you click to open an appeal window.
What's hilarious is if you get banned and appeal it, your appeal goes straight to the same person who just banned you - LOL
It’s like a new business license requiring the approval of existing rival businesses.
I didn't reply. I just continued on GA and saw I was not banned, as I didn't believe I was.
It's not really an exploit, per se. The site allows users to PM each other, and this is to inform users of this community how to distinct the shill messages from official messages. If a shill says a user is banned they can still post and reply.
It is an exploit in the sense they are using the format of the appeal process to keep users from interacting with actual mods when trying to appeal the fake ban. If they don't try and test the system by making another post, the scam succeeds.
I realize this might still work even if the appeal process is changed, but it has a much smaller chance.
We don't have any control over communities.win , unfortunately.
Hopefully a reminder like this prevents a user from giving the "shill_mod" any identifying or personal information.
