It's actually an ongoing expansion and contraction between Islam and Judaism. The Middle East was once home to a myriad of peoples, cultures, and religions. Now it is mostly Arabs and Islam. The other people didn't emigrate. Western countries, including in the Americas, are beginning to undergo the same expansion.
