Jesuit missionaries back in the day were amazing. St. Jean Brebeuf, St. Isaac Jogues, etc. plus St. Francis Xavier, Matteo Ricci... they were Jesuits cut from a different cloth.
The names I mentioned aren't the stuff of Hollywood. They wrote well documented primary sources and then (for the martyrs) their deaths were meticulously documented in grisly detail by those who saw it happen or the aftermath. I'm not a fan of the Mission, it's lame Hollywood fare.

The Mission (1986) with Robert DeNiro and Jeremy Irons is Roman Catholic propaganda which won multiple awards but was a commercial flop.
