That's easy if you describe it in cyber terms. In the cyber world a honeypot is a computer system (pc/server/router/etc.) that a security admin configures to look extremely vulnerable/hackable. They then put it on their network and monitor it to see how many people fall for the vulnerabilities and try to hack it. The idea is similar to the old canary in the coal mine. It is a great early-warning system.
It does have it's dangers though. If the admin is an idiot and doesn't add protections to keep a successful attacker from using it as a platform to further attack other machines on their network, the honeypot becomes a liability.
