Ive been in the salt mines on a tour in the 70s with the Boy Scouts before tours were shut down. Im fairly sure there isnt any active mining anymore but they are used by companies for sensitive storage. My brother in law was inside them in the recent past but I cant remember why.
The mining operations covered about 1500 acres with nearly 100 miles of roads. St Clair is about 40 miles north of Detroit so there wasnt any active mining near there but the salt dome being mined spreads out under Lake Huron and continues all the way to Drummond Island off the east coast of the Upper Peninsula. It is one of the largest salt deposits on earth. So who knows what has actually been done down there or how many entrances there could be. Drummond Island is a pretty private Island. You cant travel there without permission of a land owner.
