I traded in all my inherited stock for gold coins and junk silver coins. My hubby was not happy with me that I did that when Obama was in office but he's happy now to know we at least have a back up for when the SHTF And if we don't need it during our lifetime we are passing it on to our only child to use if she ever needs it herself
When kennedy half dollars came out you could only get two at the banks (cause hoarding)...my grandfather drove all over philadelphia going to every bank. I have all those coins today
You have to be careful today when buying 1964 and pre Kennedy half-dollars. The Chinese have been counterfeiting them, but there's an easy way to tell. If a half-dollar has an "S" mint mark on the obverse, no such mint mark was ever made in those half-dollars, they're fake. I think (if I remember correctly) that the authentic half-dollars have double letter mint marks...something like FB and GB, but I'd have to look it up to be sure.
Just avoid ANY pre-'64 Kennedy half-dollars that have an "S" mint mark, they are FAKE!!
My grandfather bought them IN 64 from the bank
Very good, long before the Chinese scammers even thought about counterfeiting them. I just bought 5 of them at a gun show recently, for $10 each.
Yeah that's probably a good call. What kind of coins did you get?
I got a roll of uncirculated French Gold Francs with angels on them. In 2009 I paid $324.44 a piece (probably more than I should have paid for them, but I wasn't sure where to buy them at the time bc I didn't trust local dealers in NY) I bought them at Goldline The same ones reportedly that Napolean carried in his pocket.
Cool! I have two Francs with Napoleon III on them. Still looking out for a good deal on a Napoleon I coin.
Im not at all savvy in coin collecting I bought these at the time bc I liked them.
