Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Keep it up, and thanks for sharing.
Small win yesterday at the opening practice for my son's tee ball:
Bunch of 3-5 year olds throwing tennis balls at / through hula hoops. 50 something female coach running it, we know her pretty well from flag football last season. Nice lady. My wife and I are helping her herd the kids into a line to take turns, as it's quite a mess. Everyone's having fun, we've all be vibing as a community for an hour and it's almost time to wrap up practice.
My kid throws the ball underhand, coach corrects him to throw overhand. I say, good naturedly, "yeah, don't throw like a girl!"
Coach says, "well, girls throw overhand in softball", I say "true, but this is pitching practice. And it was a joke really, about what we're allowed to say these days".
Coach laughs then gets pretty serious, and starts quietly talking about how much she agrees with me, and I elaborate that that is why I say such things. Because we need to exercise our humanity and free speech, and do so lovingly without falling into the traps TPTB want to set for us. I know for a fact, that I've helped warm them up to participating over just the hour we've been there. I did the same thing over the course of the football season.
The other parents are good with it, and hopefully they see, by how I've been handling their kids the whole time, that I'm a good man trying to make a point, and how they can do the same.
Ever since I've leaned into Jesus, these types of encounters are increasingly common. I'm grateful for being able to shine His light.
