I dont know if people quite understand being a realestate giant in NY and NOT dealing with the mob is a very tall order.

Anyone who tried to build in Manhattan in the 80's and tried to circumvent the mob would die in an apparent construction accident.

The mob ran everything, down to the concrete mixers.

Giuliani ended all of that.

There are stories that Trump and Giuliani were working together to bring down the mob in NYC and Trump was actually a confidential informant for the FBI. Makes sense that he was surround by retired FBI agents.
