Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I've got that album! "You've just had a heavy session of electroshock therapy, and you're more relaxed than you've been in weeks. All those childhood traumas magically wiped away, along with most of your personality!" I have Orbvs Terrarvm as well as Orblivion. I'd heard "Fluffy Clouds" on the radio station KUKQ, but Orblivion was my first album of theirs I bought. It was in 1996, and I was in Zia's Record Exchange with some friends. There was a listening kiosk at the end of an aisle and my friend told me, "Come here, you've gotta listen to this." It was the song featuring ambient game arcade sounds, with clacking pinball tables. I fell in love with it and bought the album that day.
ZIA - Phoenix … 👏👏👏
Zia's made such an impact on me. Being a used music shop that catered to the Alternative music crowd, it helped make more music more accessible to me as a broke high schooler. Actually, I think the very first CD I ever bought was at Zia's: Jesus Jones' "Doubt" album. They also sold window stickers for various bands' names, and I had ones for New Order, Joy Division, and Lush on the back of my old car. (I think they were sold out of the ones for The Smiths.)
I’m happy to hear they didn’t fall to peer pressure. That they moved on to do what they wanted to do with their music. 👏👏👏
You know I loved reading this thread. 😃
Pomme Fritz was my good friend's "album", back when we were kids and couldn't afford to own everything individually. I vaguely remember him pointing out some interesting vocal samples, but not more beyond that. Need to shore up my Orb discography as I haven't updated it in over a decade. Then, probably listen to everything more as well.
Except U.F.Orb. I wore that sucker OUT. The title track is one of my favorite dance tracks, period.
