He should have waited till after the NH primary to split the votes with Nikki and let Trump win big.
He got out before NH to make it closer for Trump.

That’s what I thought too.
Both Trump and Nikki will get a higher overall percentage of votes without DeSantis in the race. So when Trump wins, he will win with a larger total percentage than he would have otherwise. I approve of DeSantis's timing in dropping out and endorsing Trump.

I feel that DeSantis, like Vivek, was running to spoil it for the RNC and leftist favorite neocon. If Desantis would have stayed in for NH, then the results would be radically different. Even with having democrats switch to independents to vote for Haley, she still lost. This is really huge for Trump because SC is next, and if she stays in the race, then she will be greatly humiliated in her own state.
Trump knows how to play the game better than career politicians. DeSantis did his part, now he can go back to Florida where he did a great job as governor. He also established himself as a possible frontrunner for 2028. Who knows?
