It fits into the cataclysm research that some others are doing. For example, the analysis of the records of a terrible event on the carvings of Göbekli Tepe. The debate is whether there is a belt of asteroids and/or comets that engulf the planet (s), every 12000 years or so, or if it is this giant magnet flipping thing induce by sun cycles. Both may have an influence, if one thinks about it: perhaps there is a 'cloud' of debris that forms in 'weaker' or 'stronger' magnetic spots in the solar system, or indeed in the path of the solar system's traverse around the center of the galaxy.

However, just to focus on the Sun for a second: The Milancovitch cycles projection of glaciation (https://www.zo.utexas.edu/courses/thoc/Milankovitch_Cycles.html) shows that we are in a glacial period (i.e. there is ice on the caps) but that every 100 000 years or so the ice collapses in a sharp decline and then climbs back more gradually - making an eccentric saw-tooth pattern in the graph. The Ice collapses in a spectacular fashion, and the12 000 years-ago mark shows one of those collapses = drastic flooding, and the subsequent draining away over continents.

However, this analysis puts the next flooding cataclysm at another 80 000 years into the future. The question I have is: How do the next-cataclysm-is-imminent folks explain that there is a 12000-year cycle of comet showers at play? The magnetic reversal/flip theory needs more flesh, that is for sure.
