Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
And on a much funnier note, yesterday at my son's I kept hearing a loud noise. I opened the side door to the breezeway and it was really loud. Anyone who ever watched Alfred Hitchcock's movie The Birds knew what that sound was. It seems that two large trees were covered in blackbirds and as I stepped to the end of the breezeway to look, I must have startled them as they flew into a swarm. Thank God the breezeway is covered, but my car in the driveway wasn't. It caught the brunt of me startling them. Totally blasted. Will have to take it to the carwash today. That's what I call me scaring the crap out of them. I'll never do that again. Kek.
They are the worst. They show every spring in huge amounts just like illegals crossing the border. The trees beside my house were cut down about five years ago and it messed them up. That spring they were in my yard and my daughters. So many my little dog was scared when we took him out. Thankfully they found someone else to bother.
My grandson and I watch them fly across the fields, front and back of his house whenever we are waiting for his school bus. Just large blobs of moving mass flowing across the sky. Then they either land in the wooded area behind the neighbors across the street or behind my sons in the field. But Friday they decided to land in the big trees in my sons backyard. I much prefer them in the field picking the ground over for leftover corn.
Not to go all grammar on you but "and my daughters" without an apostrophe is a rather hilariously different meaning. I'd be pissed too....
Dang didn’t catch that.
LOL, I almost didn't
What is a breezeway?
A breezeway is a walkway between the house and the garage. It was once open and then my son (being a carpenter) added a roof to join the house and garage together. Trust me when I say breezeway because the breeze flows through there all the time.
Huh?
HUH?
A) Do you really not know and b) how difficult is it to find out? Am I missing some joke or movie quote or something?
I just replied to this in my head…and I can’t stop laughing 😂 🤣😂 yes it’s inappropriate
Thank God it rained all day and washed it all off. My husband was going to take it to the carwash until it started raining. So now there is no need just yet.
There were a bunch of gulls in the store parking lot a few weeks ago, and cars sort of tiptoeing around them etc. I was like F this, they know how to fly, just drove normally at them and of course they flew out of the way. A couple days later I realized one had bombed the car in the process. I cleaned it off and realized I was lucky it hit the clear bra as it ETCHED the clear bra. There is a flat spot now there. Nasty stuff LOL. So yeah, maybe not tiptoe but at least give them time to not be flying over the car!
Yes. Those birds do scare easy.
Bummer - happy it wasn’t the paint! Yikes. NOT the car! Bird poop is the worse. I keep paper towels and nitrile gloves in my trunk 🤣🤣.
A guy I knew in SF from Africa said there's some bird there that basically poops a puddle and if you don't get it off your car right away it eats right through the paint.
Edit: BTW birds combine their poop and urine, so the bad stuff for paint is the urea and whatever else in the urine part, not so much the poop part, my understanding at least.
🤢⁉️
