There is one thing that will help a little. Certain places in Texas have much lower gas prices than most other states. If the truckers map out their route and use one of the trucker apps to find cheaper gas they could save a lot of money and get full for their return trip or next route.
One other tip for anyone coming down here - visit the HEB grocery stores instead of going to WalMart or other stores if you are near an HEB. You will save more money and the food will be better. Even their generics are really good (some are better than brand) and in some stores you can get pre-made food. When I lived near an HEB in Central Texas years ago there was an old Mexican woman that sold homemade tamales every winter. Now I'm in East Texas and there are no HEBs anywhere nearby so I'm screwed.
Last tip - don't bring any illegal drugs at all, and don't speed through small towns. We don't have medical marijuana or any of that stuff, and the cops in small towns use tickets to fund their operations. Be careful.
I had a cop the other night try to get me to speed just down the road from my house. He got up right behind me in one of their unmarked SUVs with the low-profile light bar, backed off, got up again - trying to intimidate me into speeding up. I slowed down. He finally gave up until he could pass me legally. He didn't even look over when he passed. I'm not a fan of small-town city cops. The County Sheriff officers are usually much better and I haven't seen any of them do that stuff.
