Second ER visit in 2 weeks, this time with my ill husband who had fallen and suffered bad cut to head. I was astounded by the incompetence in the ER. No doctors, just a nurse practitioner there this time.

Around here, all of the health services had "lifers" on the staff, good nurses who knew your history and what you looked like healthy and when you looked sick, it was comforting. They retired or passed and not enough young people go into the field to replace them. I guess it's cheaper to hire travelling nurses than to provide one with good insurance and a pension and accrued vacation and sick time. Plus so much nursing is high tech, so compassion, which used to draw women to the profession, is not neccesary. Amazing how much healing can happen when the patient can be put at ease and know you are praying for them.
